In Hawaii, new laws designed to protect dogs and other animals will take effect starting in 2011. Hopefully this will prompt owners to take better care of their dogs.

There’s a new law in Illinois which requires pet stores and shelters to disclose the history of a dog, including information on breeders. Hopefully this will prevent dogs from being victimized by so-called “puppy mills.”
Hope For Paws just posted a video on their YouTube channel, reviewing all the great dog rescues they accomplished this past year. Check it out by clicking the link above!
This article talks about a dog who is not afraid of ladders, or heights for that matter. But he apparently needs help getting down!
I think we’ve all had days like this…
Story about how a stray dog was rescued and given a chance for a better life. It took rescuers months to catch the dog who was rather elusive.
Amazing story about a dog in Nova Scotia who is TWENTY FIVE years old! I wish all dogs could live so long…
Check out this story about an innovative idea which may help save the lives of dogs who are caught in fires. Firefighters would carry specialized oxygen masks for dogs and other emergency supplies.
Great move by major league pitcher Mark Buehrle. He’s paying for the surgery needed to save a dog who was found with an arrow sticking out of its abdomen. Horrible story, but it’s great to see people step up to help this poor animal.
This shelter dog alerted someone about another dog who was laying in a ditch in the cold — essentially saving the other dog’s life. Unfortunately, the hero dog is still waiting for adoption. Someone give him a home!
A poll shows that 53% of pet owners will be getting their pets a gift this holiday season. I have a feeling Santa will be leaving my dog a thick, juicy steak under the tree…
A dog rescue organization called Hope For Paws recently rescued a blind dog who was barely surviving alone on the streets. Here’s the video of the rescue. Fiona, the dog who was rescued, needed urgent surgery in order to restore sight in one eye. After calls for help via YouTube, Facebook, and other sources, they were able to get Fiona the help she needed. Here’s the video of the happy, happy results.
Hope For Paws is an amazing organization. Check out their website at Hopeforpaws.org!
Another example of canine heroics!
Here’s a sad story about how the down economy in Michigan is affecting dogs. Dogs are being left behind as families struggle to make ends meet.
Kind of amusing story about a man who was caught listing his dog as a dependent in order to get discounted school lunches for his children. While I do consider my dog to be like my child, I’ve never had the gumption to do something like this!
Not sure what to make of this. A man in Australia loved his dog so much that he married it. I’ve heard of two dogs marrying each other (the owners’ idea, no doubt), but never a man-canine couple.
