This is Shep — he’s 19 years old and sound asleep as he’s being cradled in his father John’s arms as they go for their daily swim in Lake Superior.
Shep was rescued by John as an 8 month old pup and now, as a senior dog, he falls asleep every night when he’s carried into the lake this way.
The buoyancy of the water soothes his arthritic bones and Lake Superior is very warm right now, so the temp of the water is perfect for them.
This is the kind of love and devotion that every dog deserves from its human guardian. [from BillinExile ; thanks also to several Facebook friends]
This is probably the best dog picture of the year. It illustrates both the compassion of the owner and the absolute trust of the dog. I’ve heard some people call this sad, but to me it’s very inspiring. It makes me want to go out and do some good in the world. Wow, I’m tearing up just typing this out. Great story.
