FIONA: THE ASPCA DOG OF THE YEAR The ASPCA announced its 2012 Humane Awards winners and selected a dog named Fiona as the Dog of the Year.  Fiona is a poodle mix who was dirty, blind and living on the streets. She was discovered and rescued from a trash heap by a rescue organization called Hope for Paws. Fiona’s transformation from a dog without hope to a happy, healthy dog is amazing. SAVED.

Police recently broke up a dog-fighting ring in the Bronx, New York, and rescued 47 pit bulls, many of them still puppies.  The dogs were confined in terrible conditions in a basement, and range in age from 12 weeks to five years. The ASPCA is currently evaluating and caring for the dogs. Hopefully, the dogs will be deemed fit for adoption so they have a chance at leading happy lives.  Click here for the full story from the New York ASPCA website and also more at nydailynews.com.
