DOG RESCUED FROM INTRICATE TUNNEL SYSTEM - “Once they gained limited access, Officer [Valeri] Guglielmotti…found an intricate network consisting of numerous tunnels…As it turns out, Lilly had been burrowing under the deck for months.”
An American Bulldog named Lilly became trapped under her deck.  When rescuers made their way to her location, they discovered that she had been digging a series of tunnels under the deck.  Apparently, Lilly became stuck because she encountered a groundhog.  Here’s more from northjersey.com:

Police continued digging through the dirt using their hands and shovels, and eventually Officer Anthony Scimeca spotted Lilly about 15 feet deep inside one of the tunnels, the sergeant said.
However, the dog was “unable” or “unwilling” to retreat, he said. As Scimeca crawled further into the tunnel, he encountered a large groundhog, which, DeVoe said, “was the likely source of Lilly’s attention.” After Scimeca removed the groundhog from the tunnel, he was able to grab hold of Lilly, he said…
“This job calls for more than just writing tickets and making arrests. Community service efforts, like this one, are what drew many of our officers to this profession in the first place,” he said.

Lilly is quite the engineer, but hopefully she learned her lesson. It’s always the groundhog’s fault. Click here for the full story.

I love the eyes.  I wish I could draw. The best I can do is a stick figure of my schnauzer.

WOMAN SAVES DOG FROM ABANDONED HOUSE -”Because temperatures were skyrocketing today, she knew she needed to do something for that dog and that she needed to get him in here…”
A woman in Ohio rescued a 1-year-old dog who had been left in a cage in an abandoned house.  The dog’s life was in danger to the extreme heat.  The dog, now named Newman, is an American Bulldog.  Newman is currently being cared for by the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. Here’s more from whiotv.com:

A woman who found a 1-year-old American bulldog mix caged in an abandoned house is being credited with saving the dog’s life during the summer heatwave of 2012.
The woman, who was not identified by name, brought the dog from a boarded up house on Third Street to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton at about 2 p.m…”We assumed it had been in the house for a couple of days,” Warren said. “It was emaciated and trapped in a cage, severely hydrated, malnourished and had traces of mange.”
Its paws were inflamed as well, Warren said, possibly from having tromped around in his own feces.
The humane society believes that the woman has seen the dog previously and decided to take immediate action.

Thanks to the anonymous woman, Newman’s life was saved. Despite the despicable way he was thrown away by his previous owners, he now has a chance to be adopted by a loving family.  Get well soon, Newman.  Click here for the full story, and click here for more information on the Humane Society of Greater Dayton.

Submission from niteoftheliving:

Quinn the American Bulldog puppy. She and her brothers and sisters were rescued when their owners were reported to the ASPCA. They had cut all of the puppies ears off with scissors when they were only weeks old! Apparently they were running a dog fighting ring and were going to use the puppies as practice for the fighting pit bulls! Poor animals!

She’s absolutely spoiled rotten now and is my best friend in the whole world! She’s a smart little girl and loves children and playing ball!

BOY RAISES MONEY FOR ABUSED DOG WITH LEMONADE STAND - “…tears overcame he and his mother when meeting the dog for the first time.

A 12-year-old boy named Caide was so moved by the story of a neglected dog named Hercules  that he started a lemonade stand to raise money for Hercules’ medical treatment.    Hercules, an American Bulldog, was found severely emaciated and neglected in a basement in New Jersey.  Caide ended up raising over $3700 for surgery and other treatment for Hercules with the help of others in the community. Here’s the story from nj.com:

When Hercules, a 3-year-old American Bull Dog, was found locked in a small crate in the basement of a Wenonah home, he barely had enough muscle tone to walk…Extremely malnourished, covered in his own feces and urine and full of fleas, the image of a dog in such dire need of care was too much to bear for 12-year-old Caide Wileczek.

Now, a lemonade stand and over $3,700 later, Wileczek got his first chance to meet his newly rescued companion on Saturday at the Delaware Valley Veterinary Hospital.

With friends and family present, Wileczek was greeted by the newly revitalized Hercules as tears overcame he and his mother when meeting the dog for the first time.

With the help of his classmates and his family, Wileczek went on to raise $3,748.33 to put towards Hercules’s medical care

As you can tell from the picture, Hercules is doing much better.  It’s amazing what one boy managed to accomplish for this dog.  Caide and Hercules are truly an inspiration to us all.
