DOGS AUDITION FOR THE ROLE OF “TOTO” IN THE WIZARD OF OZ -“We are looking for one that has that ‘it’ factor, star quality, great tricks and lots of personality.”
Canine auditions for the role of “Toto” in the Wizard of Oz are being held by the CBC for its new reality series. The dog chosen for the role will eventually appear in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Canadian production of The Wizard of Oz opening in Toronto this December. Apparently, the dog does not have to be a Cairn Terrier, which is the breed of the dog who played Toto in the film version. Here’s more from metronews.ca:
The open casting call for the dog to play Toto in the new CBC reality series, Over the Rainbow, drew dozens of hopefuls of all stripes — and spots — to the St. Lawrence Market neighbourhood on Saturday…In the film classic The Wizard of Oz, the original Toto was a cairn terrier, but any breed of dog was welcome to try out for the part.
Don Weiner, executive producer of Over the Rainbow, said the upcoming show needs a pooch with presence…We have everything from great Danes to poodles auditioning,” said Weiner, of Temple Street Productions. “They also need to be obedient and have the ability to perform on command.”
Personally, I would like to see a Miniature Schnauzer get the role, but we shall see. Click here for the full story.
