SHELTER DOG WITH PHANTOM PREGNANCY ADOPTS REJECTED PUPPY - “The pair were put together after crossbreed Kemi experienced a phantom pregnancy and was constantly searching for puppies that did not exist.”
A dog named Kemi at the Cheshire Dogs’ Home in the U.K. was experiencing medical issues from a “phantom pregnancy.” Coincidentally, a six-week-old Staffordshire mix named Eve had been rejected by her mother. Shelter workers paired up Kemi and Eve, and they began to bond as if they were mother and child . Read more from thisischeshire.co.uk:
Anna Stansfield, manager of the dogs home in Grappenhall, said: “Kemi came to the charity showing signs of the condition causing her to produce milk and act as though she was due to give birth.
“Phantom pregnancies can be very distressing for dogs and some even experience false labour pains.”
Staff had been weaning Eve by hand for two weeks when a vet advised them to place her next to Kemi.
The pair bonded and Kemi began feeding Eve from the milk she was producing.
Fortunately for Kemi and Eve, they found each other at just the right time. Hopefully they are both adopted out to loving homes. Click here for the full story, and click here for more information about the Cheshire Dogs’ Home.
