DOG RESCUED FROM INTRICATE TUNNEL SYSTEM - “Once they gained limited access, Officer [Valeri] Guglielmotti…found an intricate network consisting of numerous tunnels…As it turns out, Lilly had been burrowing under the deck for months.”
An American Bulldog named Lilly became trapped under her deck. When rescuers made their way to her location, they discovered that she had been digging a series of tunnels under the deck. Apparently, Lilly became stuck because she encountered a groundhog. Here’s more from northjersey.com:
Police continued digging through the dirt using their hands and shovels, and eventually Officer Anthony Scimeca spotted Lilly about 15 feet deep inside one of the tunnels, the sergeant said.
However, the dog was “unable” or “unwilling” to retreat, he said. As Scimeca crawled further into the tunnel, he encountered a large groundhog, which, DeVoe said, “was the likely source of Lilly’s attention.” After Scimeca removed the groundhog from the tunnel, he was able to grab hold of Lilly, he said…
“This job calls for more than just writing tickets and making arrests. Community service efforts, like this one, are what drew many of our officers to this profession in the first place,” he said.
Lilly is quite the engineer, but hopefully she learned her lesson. It’s always the groundhog’s fault. Click here for the full story.
